May 13, 2007 21:26

Yay! Photos of times gone by!

So, first off, an announcement:

Friends of Lulu is having a panel at the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art this Monday, May 14th. Jessica Abel! Miss Lasko-Gross! Lauren R. Weinstein! And yaytime, otherwise known as Dave Roman!! 7pm at MoCCA, everyone and it's FREE! You can't even buy a cup of coffee for that!

On Monday, May 14, the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art and
Friends of Lulu present a lively panel discussion on writing for comics
for today’s audiences, which include increasing numbers of women,
teenagers and tweens!

Mainstream publishers are acknowledging the changed market and we see
the results with scores of graphic novels arriving in bookstores across
the nation. However, our panelists have been writing successfully for
this seemingly new phenomenon for years. Learn about their process in
and perspectives on the industry that they have helped build, as they
discuss their expectations for its future.

The panel participants are: Jessica Abel, creator of La Perdida and
teacher at the School of Visual Arts; Miss Lasko-Gross, creator of
Escape from “Special”; Dave Roman, creator of Quicken Forbidden and
Agnes Quill; and Lauren R. Weinstein, creator of Girl Stories. The
moderator will be Marion Vitus (No In-Between) and the panel begins at
7 p.m.

Admission is free to this Women & Comics/MoCCA Mondays event, which is
sponsored by Friends of Lulu's New York chapter and will feature a Q&A
session with the audience. As a special bonus, the nominees for Friends
of Lulu’s 2007 Lulu Awards will be announced by the panelists for the
first time at this event.

And now, photos.

silentkimbly, goraina and yaytime were not harmed during the making of this photograph. AnimeBoston was a great time, I got to see my sister and brother, and I even took the plunge on some Copic Markers, which as it turns out are imported to the US by a professor I studied under at the UofO. Ken, I was a dork for not listening to your marker spiel more carefully 4 years ago at SDCC! I promise to be less of a dumbhead in the future!

Proof that my husband really is Wash from Firefly.

This is an in-joke that John's family will get. It's also a very funny picture.

The paper-tablecloth origin of Squid 'n Whale! Notice I calmed the theme down to friends for the kiddies. ;)

I'm just trying to draw cute stuff here. This was before I noticed that squids don't have top ends like octopus do. I'm still working on perfecting that part, as we know from previous entries, hee hee.

goraina and yaytime observe crypticpress's hand-flapping at our HUMONGOUS MEGA-TABLE in the Bronx! Kids Comic-Con was great, and such hard work went into it on the part of Alex Simmons and his team of volunteers to make everyone feel welcome and energized about comics. I was glad to be there!

The Comics Bakery being cute.

And, lastly, some personal news!

And yes, that actually is our bathroom. Blue with a women's signy thing. Which is John's.
