One technical error: As Galileo could tell you, a heavy rock would fall no faster than a clump of dirt!

Really? I thought the air made things fall at different rates, which is why we had an astronaut drop a feather and hammer at the same time on the moon (no air). Remember that clip?

But I'm not up on my physics. Should I change that bit? Thanks!!!

A clump of dirt is not likely to fall any slower than a rock because it doesn't have a very high surface area to weight ratio. Any round solid object will fall at virtually the same rate. If you threw the rock and dirt clump out of a plane you would see a difference after a few seconds but 12 ft is less than 1 second of free fall so any difference is insignificant..

Excellent explanation! Yes, it's wind resistance, not just weight, that will determine the rate of fall through air.

i'm ashamedly addicted to this fic and have been thinking about it the whole night (and day) :P and so glad and content and excited there's a new update.

One thought though: i hope these signals work! Resourceful Sam... awwww~!!
