Sunday was a busy day in Salida. First, we had to sleep in. When we woke up and looked out the window, it looked like this:
When we could tear ourselves away, we filled the coffee mugs and meandered off to a lovely hike through the foothills, before scampering off to loll about in a hot springs at the foot of Mt. Princeton. It was difficult work, but someone had to do it.
First, we had to clear heaps of vandals off the road:
We tried to sit on their backs, but they were too quick and skittered away. Then we wanted to ride these iron horses, but they were too tall.
So we went on our own two feet, and it was JUST RIGHT. :)
The trail meandered among stunning rock formations and colorful stones. The air was crisp, the wind soothing as it sighed through the pines.
We collected a few colorful relics, and made a little alter to celebrate the day.
The hot springs were at the foot of these gorgeous chalk cliffs at the foot of Mt. Princeton. My camera battery died, so we couldn't show you the springs, which seeped out beside the river. What you do is roll around the rocks in the river bed, to customize your hot pool size and temperature. It was very soothing.
Overall, we plan to visit Salida again. Okay, the turn-around is calling us, but it really was a lovely trip. Someday we shall retire here and raise llamas. Or maybe sheep. And ride them.
The End.
