You will be so glad to learn that, at 12:01 PM, we decided it was time to DRINK!!!! So we went back to the hotel where Maggie (who really has her thinking cap on today, I must say) had pre-chilled a bottle of Sauvignon blanc in the hotel sink by burying it in ice. The maid still hasn't arrived as of the time of this writing (one glass of wine later)-- we were wondering what she might say at finding this booze in the sink. Maggie maintained that she's certainly seen worse.

This IS the perfect road trip-- low key, just bumbling from thing to thing. This morning we took a gorgeous trail among the foothills above the town. This afternoon we're going to wander around downtown, viewing the art galleries. There's some gathering of tents we must explore-- someone was playing an absolutely perfect slide guitar that we could hear as we rambled along the front side of the mountain on our walk -- just the right blend of mellow and Western twang that made us feel, Yes. You are here. Salida, center of the universe (of Western plains, anyway). Charming.

So we're off to people watch. We'll finish up the evening at the Laughing Lady-- who could resist that name for a restaurant? Cheers!
