"Lover's Eye" или как конспирировались влюбленные в 18-19 веке.
Глаза влюбленных и любимых. Миниатюры. 18-20 век.
Часть 2.
Сначала их делали с целью сохранить анонимность любимой или любимого, позже- просто как памятное украшение, часто вместе с такой миниатюрой хранился локон или плетенка из волос любимого.
Такие памятные миниатюры вошли в моду и стали очень популярны в 1790- 1820 годах, да и позже их делали везде- в Англии, Франции,России.
Глаза любимых изображали не только на украшениях: брошках, кольцах, браслетах и подвесках, но и на шкатулках, бумажниках, коробочках.
Чаще всего эти миниатюры делали на слоновой кости.
История появления этих миниатюр такова:
принц Уэльский (позднее английский король Георг IV) влюбился
во вдову Марию Фицхерберт (она была католичка и на шесть лет его старше) и сделал ей предложение.
Самый первый "Lover's Eye"-Мария Фицхерберт, тайная жена Георга.

The eye that started it all. "The invention of "A Lover's Eye" is credited to Mrs. Fitzherbert.
It is believed that sometime around 1785 Mrs. Fitzherbert commissioned Richard A. Cosway, a London miniaturists, to paint one of her eyes. The portrait was done on ivory, placed behind glass and set within a locket.
15 декабря 1785 года состоялась их тайная свадьба, художник- миниатюрист Richard Cosway нарисовал только глаза влюбленных, которыми они обменялись и тем самым сохранили анонимность и приличия.
