Louise of Lorraine's bedroom

This bedroom is thus named in memory of Catherine de' Medici's two daughters and three daughters-in-law.
Following the assassination of her husband King Henry III by the monk Jacques Clément on August 1, 1589, Louise of Lorraine retired to Chenonceau in meditation and prayer.

Cesar of Vendôme's Bedroom

This room is in memory of Cesar of Vendôme, son of King Henry IV and Gabrielle d'Estrées, who became owner of Chenonceau in 1624.
The four-poster bed and the furniture in this room are from the 16th century.

Louise de Lorraine-Vaudémont (1553-1601) married king Henri III in 1575. She was queen of France from 1575 until 1589 when her beloved husband was assassinated.

This room, called the Queen's Bedroom, was used by King Charles IV as his private office in the 18th century. Later, in the 19th century, it became a bedroom. The furniture currently exhibited comes originally from the Royal Palace in Madrid. It made part of the private rooms of Queen Elizabeth II, and was the wedding gift she received from the city of Barcelona.
