Trompe l'oeil Facade Genoa, Italy
The houses in Genoa and along the Ligurian coast in Italy are famous for their painted facades incorporating trompe l'oeil details such as false windows with shutters and curtains and even flowering window-boxes.
Architectural details such as arches, architraves, sills, portals, capitals, lintels, transoms, balustrades, pediments, pilasters, porticos are all rendered in the most ingenious trompe l'oeil. Medallions, niches for statuary, quoins, bricks and friezes dazzle and fool the eye.
