Obama is campaigning on the XBox 360. Seriously.
I am of mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, kudos to the Obama campaign for thinking outside the box, followed by, do you really think gamers are going to be paying attention to background billboards during Burnout Paradise,* followed by surely, surely, all of us deserve one place in our universes, virtual and otherwise, completely free of political advertising, and surely it is not too much to expect that place to be the virtual worlds provided by XBox 360.
That said, I expect a lot more ads to be slipped into the background of these kinds of things -- especially as more and more television viewers head to Tivo, DVDs and internet downloads for their entertainment. (Of course, I'll note that many of us are refusing to watch broadcast TV until November 4th specifically because we're trying to avoid toxic political ads, but that's another saga.)
*Disclaimer: I've never played the game. Maybe the main point of it is to read the billboards, I dunno.
