The beginning of the end - Merlin 4x12

It’s not the best episode in S4, but it’s a very nice setup for the final episode. I wasn’t bored one single minute and I loved that not just the leads but also most of the regular characters got a moment of their own, and something very specific to them. (GWAINE! Welcome back! You were missed!)

HELLO AGAIN! :) AT LAST I can reply to you - even if it's the middle of the night (they just won't let me BE! Honestly, it's good I'm going on vacation on Friday, or else I'd start biting people)

from no other point of view does it make any sense that Merlin AND Gaius did just...nothing

Nah, I think it's just lazy writing - with kids, I've often experienced that they are usually the first ones who go "we have to do something/we have to help!". There's this lovely little anectode that Bradley once told in an interview - how he went to the theater with his parents when he was 4 or 5 years old, and in the middle of the (pantomime) play, the narrator posed a question like "but whoever will help Aladdin (?) into the cave?" (or something similar) and he was the first to pipe up "I'll do it!" *dies of cuteness, but feels strengthened in her belief in children* Even the smaller ones must be wondering why Merlin/Gaius didn't do anything even though they already had some hard facts.

Yes, Bradley is now right up there with Colin when it comes to the "WHOA, BABY!" moments in the show. I've recently rewatched S3 (they only just aired it here in Germany), and the difference to S4 is astounding! I liked it back when I watched it online, but after we've been through most of S4 now, it almost seems inferior in comparison - it's not even close to the emotional depth and grown-up vibe we had in S4. I completely blame Bradley - he's spoiled us rotten now, and now that both boys are given the really good stuff and truly deliver, I can't wait to see what they'll do next season! :)

I'll still refrain from exposing you to any of my literary outpourings - it would definitely cause brain damage, no matter how big our shared love for Bradley is! ;)

About the A/G: that ship originally brought me to the series, and I believe it worked in the beginning, but they seemed seriously off for me this season (actually ever since 3x10) - too much empty, repetitive talk, too much posing and backlighting, not enough real emotions. I was so glad they did something different this time around and just stuck to raw feelings.

And you're right, it doesn't get more canon than M/A! You don't have to ship them to see the love and the strong bond - but once you do see it, it all just becomes so much more enjoyable, and colourful and brilliant - it IS the series! :)

Strong females on the show: I'll hold out judgement on Isolde until I can watch the final ep, of course - but for now, I'm not that impressed, though she was charming and had that certain sensuality. I just wish they hadn't turned her into a damsel.

Weren't they doing casting for a female bodyguard for Gwen who will teach her how to fight and will have a love-hate relationship with Gwaine? And also, wasn't there supposed to be an apprentice-like girl cast for Merlin? Now, THAT gives me hope!

Next episode: since I won't be able to watch it till late into January, I'm almost of a mind to have someone text me the most important plot points (will there be a reveal???) on my mobile - but I shall be patient and enjoy the ep with a glass of Chianti and some quality chocolate. :D

And now... heading over to your journal ;)
