Our closing is in one week from tomorrow, then the renovations start. Woo-hoo! I'm pretty excited.
I was talking to my friend, Vera, earlier today about her new pets. She and her husband, after suffering the loss of their dog, Thaddeus, in February, went to the shelter and adopted a Husky/Lab mix girl named Jane. She is three years old, and a bundle of fun! That was a couple of weeks ago, or so. Last week they went back to the shelter and got a cat named Mona. The kitty is adjusting well to her environment and has no issues with Jane's presence. Mona was raised among dogs, so, she feels comfortable in her new home.
Jane was also, supposedly raised around cats, but her behavior does not match her background. I suspect that she is only good with cats with which she was raised, while all other cats are considered prey. From Vera's descriptions, I gather that Jane enters stalking mode in the presence of Mona. For this reason, she has not been allowed to be in the same room with the kitty except in the presence of a baby gate to separate the two. I suggested they purchase a muzzle, put it on Jane, and let her go to see what her intentions are. If she just wants to wrestle with Mona, great. But if she tries to grab her, that's a big uh-oh. I'm not sure a dog can be trained to not harm a cat if the dog sees it as prey.
Scary.
I told Vera that if it turns out Mona can't stay, I will take her since Corcodel loves kitties and misses his buddy Rosinka very much. :o) We'll see.
