junesomething, day 13-15

Oops, fell behind over the weekend.

What is something you think fandom, as a whole, needs? Either literally, like a service, or figuratively, like a 'head slap'? I've been in fandom for about 30 years now, and my answer to that would've been different at different times, but right now I think fandom seriously needs more chill. The amount of rage people can work up these days because someone stans the wrong character or ships the wrong ship or gets off to the wrong kind of porn is kind of disturbing, especially when it leads to actual IRL harassment, or to parroting of reactionary right-wing talking points from people who genuinely believe themselves to be enlightened and progressive.

Watch this video (or just read the lyrics). What pairing does this song remind you of and why? Well, I had intended to try and be less predictable and choose one of my older fandoms or more obscure pairings, but c'mon, this is totally a 616 Steve/Tony song from Tony's POV. I mean "Your love has been a torch to guide me, I hope I can be all that you deserve"? I'm pretty sure I've seen Tony saying that to Steve in fanfic. Heck, at this point I wouldn't be surprised to see Tony saying that to Steve in canon.

When it comes to writing or art, what is your source for ideas/inspiration? Do you just brainstorm? Rely on talking to others? Workshop? Or do you hang out in prompting communities?
Uhm... all of the above? It kind of depends on where I am in the fannish life cycle. When I first get into a fandom, I tend to look to canon for inspiration and write a lot of missing scenes, case fics, character backstories, etc. Then I usually move on to chatting with other fans, and also to entering a lot of fests and/or exchanges where I can write from prompts. I've done the occasional kink meme, too. It's all grist fo the mill, really. This entry was originally posted at https://marinarusalka.dreamwidth.org/648130.html. You may comment there using OpenID.
