Actually, interview on tv line with writers revealed that the kiss was unscripted and was actors acting on moment. So not really what the writers meant to be going for
Ultimately, I don't think that matters. Scripted or not, the kiss made it into the episode and that changed the way the story works. Combined with John's "you saved me" speech and the timing and staging of the death scene -- which still were scripted -- it shifted the story focus from Carter to Reese in a way that bugged me. When I watch TV, I'm stuck with what's on screen, not what the writers meant.
Thank you! I was going to write this exact post, every single word of it (although probably not as clearly, because of all the grrrrr!), and now I don't have to!
Carter was the reason I started watching the show in the first place! I'd accidentally wandered into the PoI panel at ComicCon, and Taraji P. Henson was there and was really awesome, so I decided to give the show a try. I'm going to miss her so much.
She's a great actress, and Carter was absolutely the clearest moral guide for the show, as well as being an utter badass, and how often do you get those two things together in a female character? It's just so disappointing.
