Iron Man question for the comics geeks on my flist

May 10, 2008 07:41

So. Yinsen (the Shaun Toub character). Does he have a counterpart in the comics, with a backstory and stuff, or was he made up for the movie?

No, I'm not contemplating fic at all, nuh-uh, not me...

Yes. I'm not that much into Marvel, but I can point you to this wikipedia entry for a start:

Yes, he does. In the original comic book (Tales of Suspense #39), Stark was captured by a warlord in Southeast Asia named Wong Chu. Aside from location, though, the story followed pretty much the exact same arc. Yinsen was another scientist captured by the warlord, he assists Stark in building a weapon for said warlord, and he sacrifices himself in order to give Tony's armor time to charge up.

The only difference is that of nationality and locale.

Hm. So based on the Wiki article ratcreature has linked, it looks like the character's been retconned enough times that it would be safe for me to work out my own backstory for the movieverse version. Nice to know. :-)

Not sure how much non-Tony Stark info there is, but you should check out likeadeuce's Beginner's guide to Iron Man - Part One and Part Two

This movie is going to eat my flist, one fan at a time. Hee. \o/

Not that you'd be thinking about writing fic or anything. And I'm NOT writing Tony/Pepper! I am not!

What ran through my mind when I was watching the scenes when Yinsen was in the cave with Stark was that, how the hell does he (Yinsen) still manage to have such a spectacular and neatly tailored suit??? Were there dry-cleaners in the area too?
