Now that mornings are starting to get chilly again, hot breakfast starts seeming like a really good idea. OTOH, getting up extra early in order to cook before school isn't my idea of a good time. So I took some inspiration from a recent post by
malkingrey and decided to make oatmeal in the crockpot.
Last night before bed, I put some steel-cut oats and water into the pot, then added some dried strawberries and blueberries, a couple of tablespoons of maple syrup, a teaspoon of cinnamon, and a few dashes of allspice, cloves and nutmeg. Then I just set the crockpot to low and let it go overnight.
OMG, best breakfast ever! I am so never eating that instant oatmeal crap ever again. And it was all hot and ready as I woke up, and the kitchen smelled heavenly.
