hiking and farmers tan

Yesterday I went hiking (people actually do that out here). I went with Lenny (the BF). He is really into hiking and outdoors-y stuff. I always thought that in theory I was really into it too and that the only reason that I never did these things back in New Orleans was that I had no one to go with because no one I knew liked to do that stuff. Now I realize that I was just a lazy ass, because now that I have someone to go with I still don't ever feel like going. Well I am trying to get into it now. There are so many beautiful places around here to go that its a shame to not take advantage of that. Actually, now that I think about it, I am like that with a lot of things (ex. bowling or playing pool). I think I like something in theory but then when I get the opportunity to do it, I don't really want to and I need to be talked into it. But then once I am there, I actually like it. I don't know why I am that way. I should look into that. Anyways...I digress...

So we went to this place called Mt. Tamalpais (Mt. Tam as all the cool people here call it) Its in Marin (North of the city). Lenny has been trying to get me to go there for a while, but I was hesitant because 1) I am a lazy ass and 2) He has been telling me how hard it is and that half of it is all uphill so I was really scared because I am way out of shape. So finally we went and it was actually really nice. We hiked down to Stinson Beach and sat on the beach for a while and then hiked back up. It was a little over 6 miles. I will be outdoors-y before you know it.

So the only bad part is that I got the most ridiculous framers tan. The weather was really nice and there was a nice breeze, so I didn't realize how sunny it was. I should have had a clue because I saw others putting on sunscreen. I also have gotten sunburned many times before and I always vow "Never again!", but I still never think about sunscreen. So here is the description of my tan/burn:
-my face is all red, but one cheek is redder than the other (as if my cheeks need to get any redder)
-I have the lines from my sunglasses on the side of my face (again one side is more noticeable than the other)
-one side of my neck is burned
-my arms, but just between my wrists and elbows and only on top (I was wearing a t-shirt)
-my legs, but only between the middle of my calf to the ankle (capri pants)

It is so stupid looking. I have gotten farmers tans before, but for some reason, this is the most ridiculous one ever. I think its the arms.

So lessons learned:
Hiking at Mt. Tam - good
T-shirt and Capri pants and sun - bad
Sunscreen - good
