Audiobooks and I

When Amazon announced immersion reading I was thrilled, while I've never really been into audiobooks per se, the possibility to read an ebook and to simultaneously listen to it was drool-worthy for someone like me, who has learned most of her English by reading and still has trouble with diction sometimes (not to mention that my instinct for stesses is totally off, in any language).

Except...it didn't work for me. I tried a few times, with different books and readers and didn't finish any, I always ended up going back to the written word only.

Until I mis-clicked and bought the audiobook of Foxglove Summer, the latest novel in the Peter Grant series narrated by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith I thought:'Ah, well, lets try again, it was discounted after all' but, based on precedent, my expectations were quite low, not to say non-existent.

Well, mr. Holdbrook-Smith needed all of two sentences to hook me, I was glued to my Fire until I finished the book.

And, indeed, hearing the words as you are reading them is extremely helpful. Fortunately, when the reader works for you, it's also fun.
