So they took x-rays and nothing's broken. The doctor said he sees this a lot in music students from U of M... I basically just overdid myself, or caused "overuse syndrome." He recommended occupational therapy 2-3 times a week for 6 weeks. I had my first session today. I have to call my insurance company to see if they'll cover that much, if any, therapy, but most of it I can do at home. I'm not supposed to "resume normal activity" yet, but SOON. It's definitely gotten better in the last week or so, but I've been taking it easy and mostly working on pedal stuff. So long as it doesn't start hurting again when classes start back up, everything can go back to normal. As normal as normal can be.
The weird thing is that at therapy, they were doing these strength tests. They compared my right to my left in both squeezing with the whole hand, and pinching with the thumb and first two fingers, and in every test, my left hand/fingers were stronger than my right. Which is strange because I'm VERY right handed. So my right hand is definitely pretty weak right now, probably since I've had it splinted and have been resting it for almost a month now.
I'm hoping to stop by the Saline rec center on our way out of town today and buy a membership. It's only $221 for the whole year, and it'll go up $7 if I wait til the 1st of the year. With everything that's happened, I haven't been exercising like I was and it has HUGELY affected my mood and overall happiness. I'm really looking forward to running again. And when it gets warmer, my apartment complex has nature trails, and there's a really pretty park with a river that runs through it just down the road. I want to be outside!
My mom came over this morning after my therapy and we were supposed to go "antique shopping." I'm not sure I'm the kind of person who goes antique shopping, but it was just so out of the blue and she really seemed to want to spend time with me, so I was game. Unfortunately, THE antique shop in Saline was closed. But we found one of those cheesy candle/book/Beanie Babies/ornament stores, which is going out of business, so I bought two books for a total of $9.53. I bought a Dickens that I did't have yet, "Hard Times," and the sequel to a book my 5th grade teacher gave me to read, called "The Road to Memphis." I love finding books for cheap! They weren't even used.
But anyway, my mom stopped back at the apartment because she wanted me to show her our Wii, since her patient, Jakey, just got one and she's going to have to learn how to play it with him. Watching my mom play Wii bowling was probably the highlight of 2008!
..............
Happy New Year! If you're the drinking kind, please be safe and so help me God don't you dare drive! Peace out 2008.
