Blatant Product Placement, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, July 27, 2011
During our second joint grilling experience, Jimmy and I used the products shown here. I'm thinking maybe I ought to contact the producers of various items we use around here and ask them how much they'd be willing to pay me if their products should just happen to appear in photos of the day on, say a weekly basis. It's time to turn this little hobby of mine into a revenue stream.

Give Blood, West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, July 28, 2011
I gave blood on Thursday morning at a blood drive held at work. I had scheduled an 8:00 a.m. appointment, which was fine though I realized as I was being prepped for the donation that I had not eaten breakfast. I was fine though, and the donation was uneventful.

Anytime I give blood, I'm reminded that the first few times I tried to donate, back in high school, I was always declined, with a gentle suggestion that I should get myself checked out for anemia. But I never had anemia.

I'm also reminded, each time I give blood, about how my friend Greg taped Pete Townshend's song "Give Blood" to play constantly while he was making his donation during our dorm's blood drive.

If you're healthy and able, give blood sometime!

Retirement spread, West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, July 29, 2011
A 31-year veteran of ASTM retired yesterday, so the traditional retirement breakfast celebration happened. A wide variety of snacks, including tomato pie, veggies and bagels, was presented. In addition, there was a slide show and even a Dickie Goodman-like audio song-break-in piece that was played. I take photos at these events, and pass them on to the retirees.

And I must acknowledge this: having now worked for 21 years at ASTM, I often find myself fantasizing, in the wake of these retirement events, about what my own retirement will be like. One thing that seems certain is this: at my retirement celebration, the tale of the day a co-worker dropped a pork chop on my shoe will be enthusiastically be recounted.

And tomato pie will be eaten.
