Boss-chan
001: Morning Calls
It was another day in the studio for Nishikido Ryo. It was six o'clock in the morning and he was already frowning. It was going to be a busy day. Today he was supposed to be with NEWS for a full day of promotions, appearances, photoshoots and a performance for Music Station. He was organizing his notes that he had (because God forbid it not be in order). The appointed time was not until six thirty, but he was early. Besides, he wanted a little peace and quiet before today's busy schedule.
Slowly the clock inched towards the appointed time. He looked at the door and pouted. Why wasn't anyone coming? They knew that they needed to be there in order to travel early for the photo shoot, the site wasn't very close and the photographer wanted to catch the morning sun. Maybe he was just antsy. It was only 6:15 after all and the boys still had a couple more minutes before they should be coming.
By 6:20, he was frowning. Where was everyone? Did he get the time wrong? He turned his phone to the calendar feature and checked. Nope, it was the right time and date. He closed his eyes and mustered all the patience he had. The day was starting out all wrong and he hated it. Five minutes later, his hand was on the call button, calling the first person he had on his call list.
Yamashita Tomohisa yawned as the automatic answer turned on for his blue tooth handsfree set. He was driving towards the studio to meet up with NEWS for one of their busiest days of the month. Whoever made the schedule should be shot. He only had a few hours of sleep due to filming the day before and a 6:30 AM call was the last thing he needed. He looked at the caller ID and he frowned. It was Ryo. He better not be in a bad mood.
"Ohayo, Ryo," He said in his most awake and cheerful voice.
"Where are you?" Ryo demanded. He was tapping his foot and watching the clock. It read 6:26 AM. Four minutes until they were all late.
Shit.Ryo was in a crabby mood. Tomohisa took a deep breath and closed his eyes. "I'm coming, Ryo-chan. I'm actually a few blocks away. Did you want coffee? I was thinking about making a Starbucks run."
"No coffee, you'll be even later. Just come and hurry." Ryo said shortly and clicked it off then dialed the next person.
Yamapi blinked as he heard the phone click off. Now that woke him up. That was just like Ryo. He sighed and turned his car towards the fast lane. He needed to get to the studio and fast. He didn't want the Nishikido Tiger to claw his eyes out.
The clock now read 6:27 AM and Ryo looked up to see Keiichiro Koyama enter the room sleepily, a yawning Kato Shigeaki in tow. Shige was talking a mile a minute about some random factoid that he had learned the night before. It was just like the prodigy to talk about shit that no one really cared about. He watched as Koyama listened patiently and shook his head. At least these two were on time.
"Ohayo, Ryo-chan!" Koyama smiled at the boy. "You're here early."
"I always am." Ryo growled as he looked for Tegoshi's number on his cellphone.
That was not a good sign. Shige looked at Koyama and motioned to him to sit in the corner in front of his locker. Thank God he was early. He did not want to be in the recieving end of Boss-chan's fury.
At that same moment, Tegoshi Yuya looked at his cellphone as he ran up the stairs and down the hall towards NEWS' Dressing Room. It was 6:28 AM and it was not a good sign that Ryo-aniki was calling. This might mean that the tiger is out and he did not want to be growled or yelled at. He finally skidded to a stop and opened the door quickly as possible.
"I'm here, Ryo-chan!" He said with relief as what he saw scared him. Ryo was frowning, on the phone. He knew that look. Boss-chan was out early. "I'm on time."
"Good, where's Massu?" He asked with a frown as Tomohisa finally entered the room after Tegoshi.
"Uh.. I don't know," Tegoshi said as he went to his locker and pretended that he needed something from it to avoid any further grilling from Ryo. This was an unusually high level of crabbiness for Boss-chan and he hated to be at the recieving end of it.
The clock now read 6:30 AM. If Massu comes in anytime within the next 5 minutes he may be spared. Ryo was not that bad anyway. He knew that the boy may just be in the elevator or something. But the five minutes passed and still no sign of the boy. Ryo's last bit of patience was now exhausted. Where is he? He had the expression of pure murderous intent as he dialed the boy's number. He knew what was in store for him if he was late.
Meanwhile, Masuda Takahisa yawned as he thought he heard his phone ringing. It was 7:00 AM and the sun was shining outside. He smiled as he danced a little jig to the catchy tone of Sayaendou before picking it up without checking who it was.
"Ohayo Gozai-massu!!" He said to the caller cheerfully as he stretched his other arm over his head. Oh it feels good to be alive.
"Masuda Takahisa, where are you?" The sharp voice of Nishikido Ryo was heard through the reciever.
Suddenly, Massu bolted upwards and stared at the calendar that he had across his bed. Today was that 6:30 AM call. He looked at his clock and it now read 7:05 AM. Fuck. "I'll be there in 20 minutes," he said onto the reciever and dropped it on his bed as he rushed to get ready. He knew that if he was later than the promised 20 minutes, Ryo would have his head and he liked his head, thankyouverymuch.
The next 20 minutes were the most agonizing ones that the four boys have ever endured in the dressing room. They felt like they were trapped inside a closed cave with a hungry tiger. In a sense, they were. The look on Ryo's face was more than murderous as they counted down the minutes and prayed that Massu gets there on time.
Ryo was now talking to the manager and apologizing in behalf of the group. He tried to be calm about it, but inside he was boiling. Massu better get here soon or he'll slice him into tiny pieces and feed him to the fishes in Tokyo Bay. As the 20th minute almost ended, Ryo was ready to explode.
The group sighed in relief as Massu came in just in the nick of time, with 5 seconds to spare. Talk about a photo finish. "I'm here, gomen! I overslept," Massu said in between breaths. He had run as fast as he can to get here and taken the fastest route possible. He looked at the relieved faces of his comrades and knew that he made it just in time.
"Well, at least you're here," Ryo said trying to calm himself. He finally turned to the guys and motioned that they should leave before the morning sun disappears. "Let's go."
The boys all hurriedly filed out of the room to their freedom and Ryo took a deep breath. He really shouldn't act like this. It was unhealthy and the mood was now tense. He closed his eyes and steadied his mood. Ahh.. there, calm.... That's much better. He joined the boys in the trek to the van. Maybe a little fresh air would be good for him. He made a mental note to apologize to his friends before heading out himself.
However, once they got to the van, all resolve of ever apologizing went out the window as he saw what Massu was wearing. The boy was clad in bright yellow pants, a blue and yellow tie-die sweater and a denim jacket. He looked ridiculous.
"Masuda, what in heaven's name are you wearing?" Ryo growled as he approached. If looks could kill, Massu would be six feet under by now.
Tomohisa immediately ran to Ryo to restrain him as the boys pointed to Massu. "Hurry Massu, to the back of the bus! RUN!"
Massu's eyes widened as he obeyed. Today was going to be a long ass day.
