Day 18 of Meme (out of order because this is kinda huge)

18. What is your best cosplay memory?

18. I don't have "best cosplay memories", I have "best con memories" because there are too many of them. Let's see...

-Otakon 2001: My first convention. Best memory of that con = meeting Hikaru Midorikawa at his autograph session and having him hand my artbook back with a "Dou itashimashite, Nuriko-san". Also, riding the light rail was fun.

-Otakon 2004: When Branden wore Betsy's Sanzo costume. He chased the pizza guy down the hallway reading random Bible verses, then wore it to the con the next day because he tore the crotch out of his Hatsuharu pants. Halfway through the day, he had to go change because people kept asking him if he was supposed to be Jesus. This was also the year of the L'Arc concert... but let's not talk about that. Bad memories there, and that's next question.

-Otakon 2005: Everything I got to do with Mandy, Jay, Jenny, and Clex. This was the year FMA was huge and the Japanese director was there. This also kicked off my Ed coat's trek to collect names. We spent most of the time running around with Vic and he even bought a ring for each of us with the flamel on it. I still have it, somewhere.

-Otakon 2008: The autograph session for the Underneath, DaizyStripper, and Marbell, while dressed as hide. I got a lot of "hide-san!", "arigatou, hide-san!" and one of the boys from DaizyStripper sang the chorus to Rocket Dive to me. Given that I was moving around on a sprained ankle for the whole weekend, that made my entire con.

-Otakon 2011 (FMAcon): The autograph session for Kazuya Murata. Apparently the first so many people got one of the freebies that were given away with preorder tickets in Japan, which I dind't know at the time, but I came away with a calendar :) Anyway! When I handed over the Ed coat for the autograph, Murata, the guy from Aniplex, and his handlers all started babbling excitedly in Japanese, pointing to this name or that name... and then before signing, Murata handed over a camera to one of the girls so she could take a picture of it! Um! Didnt' get to participate in the FMA shoot, but it was okay because I had someone come up to me and ask to take my picture, then asked if they could take pictures of the uniform itself because they "were a sucker for details and construction", which was cool because it made me happy :3. Then I got interviewed at the FMA movie premiere by FUNimation.

-Tekko II: My first time having someone "important" comment on my costume/first time meeting Vic Mignogna. I'd slapped my Kougaiji costume together the night before (read, while everyone was at the rave on Saturday cos a friend wanted to wear my Kyo costume on Sunday) and finished it in the hotel bathroom. At Closing Ceremonies, I got flagged down by another Kougaiji and some guy. He was all "Wow! I love your costumes! They're amazing!" and I was all "um... thanks? I finished it this morning in the bathroom?" aaaaand then I found out that the guy I had no clue who I was talking to was Vic, who had voiced Kougaiji. So that was kinda cool for me at the time.

-Tekko IX: My first time really entering a Hall Contest without having costume malfunctions on everything. Also my first time winning an award! I still have no clue what division I was put into, though. ^^;

-AnimeFEST 2006: I got stopped in the hall by a group of Japanese guys with sideways badges who were going "OOH! NEW SASUKE! OH! SHARINGAN! SUGOI!". I had no clue who they were, but I made nice and pictures were taken... by them and by me. Later, at the concert, I realized that I had been stopped by Koushi from FLOW and his handlers. When I told him I remembered him during the autograph session, he smiled and told me "I remember you, Sasuke-kun" then proceeded to poke each member down the line, instructing them with hand signals to look at my eyes. XD

-AnimeFEST 2007: Gundam Wing character designer Shukou Murase was a guest. Went through his autograph line to have him say something to his handler who looked at me and said "He wants me to tell you that he really likes your costume". This was said costume.

-AnimeFEST 2008 - Having Scott McNeil compliment me on my tattoo (which was still very very fresh since stupid me got it the day before we left for the con). This man is just all around awesome, and I hope he comes to one of the cons out this way.

-Katsucon 2011: I WAS STAFF! IT WAS AWESOME! THIS MADE UP FOR BAD KATSU'09!

-Animazement 2009: Uchuu Sentai NOIZ made this con for me. First, there was the concert on Friday. Masato wore fuzzy orange legwarmers that karanoaoi and I were talking about wanting. Saturday, we were walking up behind the hotels and I saw orange, so I tole her "Hey! There's those fuzzy legwarmers!". Turned out it was Masato and Kyo who were sitting outside with Midori (a friend of karanoaoi's). Kyo showed me some kendo moves with my bokken and we hung around for a bit (mostly letting Mandy talk to Midori) before we set off. Saturday's concert happened. Sunday, there was signing/photosession... in which I was stopped in my Ichigo costume so that someone with the band could take a picture of my wig. Then later, in the next live performance we found on Youtube, THERE WAS MASATO WITH MY WIG'S STYLE AND COLOR!

-AnimeNEXT 2005: The best moment of this con was when I accidentally spoiled the ending of FMA for Vic and didn't realize I did it until I was told by Travis during autographs that "I know what you're from, Caitlin knows what you're from, but Vic doesn't know. No matter how much he asks, don't tell him. That's an order from the Colonel." Turned out that Vic hadn't watched the series prior to dubbing it. He DID ask, a lot, but I kept to my orders and said I couldn't tell him. Later in chat (I was still a Ranger at the time), when they'd finished the series, I asked him if he remembered my costume now since he'd have seen it by that point. I got a "THAT WAS YOU???" in response and I know there was more, but I'd have to go back through AIM logs to find it.

-Zenkaicon 2011: It has been a LONG time since Vic Mignogna was the highlight of any convention for me. That said, I went through the autograph line on a whim because a)there was nothing else to do by that point of the con and b) we were getting something signed for linen_tartuga, with my Ed plushie in Envy's mouth. The fangirls in line didn't like that much... but Vic loved it enough that he took pictures of it. And gush over Envy. Envy has since been dubbed Conaids after some squealing brat in an elevator who was whining about how, after stepping in water from the hotel's pool exclaimed "I hope I don't get con-AIDS!" For as much love as Envy gets at cons, he's probably picked up quite a few things since I got him last year. :/ Actually, I think the reason Vic was a highlight was because there wasn't anything at the con that interested me, and we had agreed to get his autograph for a friend.

-AnimeUSA 2008: The Weiss Group.

-AnimeUSA 2009: Quaff. We went to the con to see Kaya, but decided to go see quaff... and then decided we had to go back to see their second concert. The Kaya concert? We hung around for a few, then left. Just wasn't as interesting, though we did see quaff standing behind us.

THAT IS ALL
