Friday Recommendations on Saturday : )

Hullo! It is already the first wedding anniversary for LoneWolf and me! He is whisking me away to somewhere mysterious and romantic for the weekend. I haven’t got a clue where, but I do know that he is well chuffed! I’ll let you know next week where we went.

The KnittedHobbits had a fantastic Valentines Day - or as they call it, Valentinemus or Valmus for short - and KnittedMerry has done a lovely post all about it! I think that these are some of the cutest KnittedHobbit pictures so far, although I am still not sure exactly what KnittedFrodo was up to! All of the KnittedHobbits enjoy reading your comments about their adventures, so if you haven’t stopped by, please do!

And speaking of KnittedMerry, he has requested that I post this announcement:

His Eminence knittedmerry has decreed that a tourney be held to eulogise his iconoclastic Magnificence in icons!

To the winner shall be granted a purse of the greatest value and all shall be bestowed with a token from the Magnificence that is KnittedMerry!

However, should His own Magnificence be too dazzling for the craftsmen and craftswomen and tourniers to bear, they may also submit icons of his loyal henchhobbits, KnittedPippin, KnittedFrodo or even KnittedSam!

Should no suitable poses or images be found (all of which you tourniest may avail yourselves from His Eminence's LJ or that of knittedpippin) you may humbly request that a new image be struck.

Please address such petitions to Lizallinos@aol.com and she will endeavour to persuade the required KnittedHobbits to pose for you (only keep it clean eh guys!)

The competition or tourney will commence henceforth (i.e. now) and will cease, with the announcement of winners, one month hence on the 19th March 2006.

Your Magnificent submissions should be put directly onto the userpic page at KnittedHobbit Icons and then a post made to the aforementioned LJ, utilizing said icon, and proclaiming the maker thereof!

Translation from Marigold:

The KnittedHobbits would like some new icons and have decided to hold an icon-making competition. All participants will receive a little gift as a token of KnittedMerry's esteem, and the winner will get a nice prize!

All that you need to do is take whatever images you want from knittedmerry or knittedpippin's LJ's, or if you have a special icon in mind and can't see just the right picture for it, Llinos will endeavour to convince the lads to pose for it and will send it to you if you write to her and ask. Static and animated icons are both welcome, just nothing slashy or with overly adult content please. There is a limit of 5 icons per entrant. : )

Entries should be posted direct to the userpic page, KnittedHobbit Icons, and then a post made using that specific icon telling folks who you are so that you may receive your little pressie and any prize. Make sure that you put your identity into the icon's keywords too! The password is 4knittedhobbits - trusting of us I know, but everyone on LJ is usually very nice, and we trust folks will not abuse that trust on a fun little competition like this.

The competition starts now, and winners will be announced on 19th of March!

It sounds like lots of fun, and I really wish that I knew how to make icons!

I have begun to receive the stories for Challenge 26, thank you! Next week I will be announcing the theme for Challenge 27, to be posted in April. Anyone that would like a starter for any of the Challenges can write to me at MarigoldCotton@aol.com.

Now, here are this weeks stories!

Pick:

Remembering by Ancalime

This is a very short ficlet in which Sam remembers Frodo passing over the sea, a year ago that day. Sam’s thoughts here are so appropriate, and Rosie is so understanding. It is not overly sad, but has a very realistic sense of surprise at the passing of time, and a muted sort of grief that will never go away.

This was written by Ancalime in honour of Nivina, also known as Ethereal Hobbit, one year after her untimely death.

Best Bet:

That Which Cannot Be Put Into Words by Pearl Took

This is a beautiful short story, in which Pippin comes across a fair Elf lady in the woods of Lothlórien. They do not speak each other’s language but Pippin instinctively knows a way for them to communicate. His resolution seemed to be perfectly Pippin to me!

It is really interesting the way that Pearl has everything that occurs in the story being seen through Galadriel’s mind’s eye. I imagine that she does know pretty much anything she cares to that goes on in her land! I also liked Pearl’s descriptions of the ways some of the other members of the Fellowship are seeking to assuage their grief.
