My entry for the Farscapeland Challenge "Love is in the Air"!

John -

I don’t know if you’ll get this, but it’ll be nice for me just to write it… Sorta like those recordings you made for me when you were first on Moya.

I wanted to tell you about your new step-mother.

After you left, things were quiet on Earth for a little while, but you know how the saying goes - some bells you can’t un-ring. The Peacekeepers found a wormhole, and came by to introduce themselves. And I guess you remember how we can be here on Earth… Always so scared of the unknown, and so ready to hitch our wagons to whatever star has the biggest guns. So - the Peacekeepers are our allies now.

They set up diplomatic centers all over the planet, and I was given the task of acting as liaison to their Earth ambassador. I was worried, based on what you’d said about your experiences with the Peacekeepers, but their ambassador just won me over. She’s just amazing John. I never thought I’d find anyone to replace your mom, you know, but man - this woman is impossible not to love. The first time I looked at her, I actually swooned - can you believe that? Talk about your rattlers. I walked into the room with my hand extended, looked into her eyes… and the next thing I knew, I was on the floor with my head in her lap. Figured a woman has that strong an impact on a guy, he oughta just marry her.

Of course, I didn’t put it to her quite like that - I gave it a couple of weeks. But something about her is just so intoxicating, it wasn’t long before I knew it was meant to be. So one night, when we were outside looking up at the stars (she was pointing me in the general direction of your quadrant of space - I like to think you were up there smiling down on us) I popped the question, and she accepted!

I guess I should also mention - she has a little boy, a wonderful little guy. He’s too serious though… I’m going to legally adopt him, once Earth law catches up with the brave new universe we’re living in. He’s a beautiful kid - reminds me a little of you.

I can’t remember when I was last this happy. The only thing that could make it better is if you were here. Attaching a picture of me and your stepmom, Mele’on Grayza Crichton, at our wedding.

Love you son,

Dad
