writing about the "supernatural and 'strangeness in beauty.'" this would be an awesome subject, only, i have to apply it to dead british lords. don't get me wrong, some of them limeys were pretty kinky. like how occultism and mesmirism was applied at estate parties. very decadent and kooky. but honestly, not very true to life.
what is the cultural fascinitation with romanticism? literally, a whole genre of cheap harlequin writers make their bucks off of women obsessed with sex in petticoats. historical romance, they call it. being ravished by the stable boy when the "old man" is sipping brandy with the house of lords must have a certain draw. but when you think about it, it's more than silly.
when you look at writers from the era, the fascination with mythology and epic is so dry and stereotypical, that you wonder if these dead british men really knew anything about passion or romanticism. maybe in an abstract way, their attempts at escapist fancy was supposed to be an outlet. or maybe they were just that boring and philosophical on purpose.
hmmmm. anyway, i'm sick of the written word right now. especially the boring written word. especially about the boring written words pertaining to romance.
eh. maybe i need to go find me a stable boy...
