So I was driving around aimlessly yesterday trying to get Rhett to finally fall asleep and I pulled onto a short dead-end street. So I pull into the driveway of the last house down and am immediately struck by this house. As I paused to look at it it seemed so "happily situated" (to borrow from my favorite movie) and just looked near perfect to me. And wham, I am instantly in love with this house.
Oddly enough, it is many things I do not like in a house... or thought I did not like. It is painted a rusty orange and orange is probably my least favorite color. It has a wood exterior, not brick or stone which I vastly prefer. It is not a 3-story victorian or colonial like I like. The list goes on...
What is does have though strictly from the outside is a nice big lawn, a big back yard, a 2-car garage, a big 3-car driveway, a swingset, a treehouse/fort, a place to cut and store firewood, a quirky little 2-story shape, is at the end of a dead end road (so little traffic worries), has trees for shade but but far enough from the house not to block sunlight, and in general, is just very happily situated. The term just fits.
From the inside it appears to have 3 bedrooms (just what we need), 3 bathrooms, an open kitchen, a heated garage, a family room (I dream of a living room with no toys), an office (computer room!), wood floors, an interesting layout, a wood stove to supplement heat, a new roof, new windows, and a new water heater, the list goes on.
And did I forget to mention it is for sale?! So we are going to arrange a walk-through if we can just so I can see the inside. I'm hoping it's flaws will be glaring enough to break my infatuation. But from the pictures, it looks nice... And generally, it seems pretty ideal for us. Of course we do not have any hope of being able to afford a $380,000 house right now. So what this becomes is fate laughing at me yet again. lol
I find the situation a bit funny honestly (the objective, calm part of me, anyway). I knew love at first sight existed (in various forms) but that is people and chemistry or whatever... but who would have thought you could fall in love with a house? It seems a bit bizarre to me. :D
