it's a rough life...

Well, I didn't get much done today that was on the plan for the day. Serendipity isn't usually my style; I generally have to schedule my spontaneity in advance. But today I was able to just roll with the weather and the good ideas and just enjoy it all.

Which resulted in, among other things, an amazing meal:
*tender, rare grilled flatiron steak that may very well have come from a county-fair champion (the butcher from whom I bought it makes a point of supporting the local 4-H kids and buying the best of their show animals) seasoned with nothing but a touch of sea salt
*corn on the cob, grilled baby zucchini, and grilled sweet red bell peppers from two local farmstands - the kind where the veggies are picked right there, every day, not trucked in across the country
*handmade white bread from a small-town bakery
*a lovely 2004 Syrah from the Dry Creek Valley of California
*and to top it off, a warm pecan-fudge brownie topped with a handful of the raspberries I picked this morning, and drizzled with heavy cream.

Best of all, there are leftovers of everything! (except the berries - they went in the freezer)

There are a few things I really do need to get done tomorrow, but I'm awfully tempted to blow off the majority of the plan...
...make an omelet for breakfast...
...go pick more berries...
...play in the workshop for a while...
...walk down to the library...
...get more veggies and cook for the freezer...
...go down to the harbor with the camera for moonrise...
...sit on the porch with a good book and a better glass...

Choices!

drinkables, nom!, life
