Writer's Block: Secret Ballot

Nov 05, 2008 08:19

My total wait time was about 70 minutes (southwest Kenosha WI, ward 27). I arrived about half an hour after the polls opened and was eventually ballot #143. No confusion, plenty of (paper) ballots on hand. Expecting a wait I had taken a book along, but wound up spending most of my time in line chatting with the folks around me. Everyone was pleasant and cheerful. Once I got my ballot I was done in 1-2 minutes (very short ballot: 4 contested races, a handful of uncontested local positions, and one referendum). I appreciated having a big black marker to fill in the circles instead of a pencil--a little thing, but made it quick and obvious what my selections were.

The PTA of the school where I voted wisely set up a coffee-and-doughnuts concession stand near the entrance to the polling area. They did quite well! No one gave out any stickers, though. ;-(
