Hiatus-fueled fandoms rant!
Since I've been away so long, I've fallen in and out of fandoms, become more deeply rooted in some, found new appreciations in others. This is practically my public fandoms journal, so it seemed only proper to write an entry on it!
Bear in mind that any fandoms I talk about here are open to be requested for fic or graphics! I do still do those things!
Still dominating as my top obsession is, of course, the inimitable L'Arc~en~Ciel. Their world tour was a huge step, and I am immensely proud to be a fan of theirs. I've managed to make converts of several friends, (as well as my parents, surprisingly enough!) and have made new friends because of mutual love for L'Arc, as well. It's remarkable! Now that the new DVD of MSG is coming out, I'm more excited than ever. Ah, and of course, Tetsuya remains my unmatched hero in music and in life. <3
Lately I've gotten really into The Hunger Games, which I had read a few years ago. The movie was in part to blame for this, though really, my interest was most piqued by Finnick and Annie. They are the most interesting aspect of that series to me now. To think of their emotions building from when she was a tribute and he her mentor, when the Games were surely rigged so she would win, to be used against Finnick... it's fascinating, and heart-wrenching. And it gives me feelings!
Speaking of giving me feelings, I just finished the Leviathan trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. It is a truly magnificent series! For those of you that haven't read it, it is an alternate history of World War I, where technology developed differently-- Darwinsists create fabricated beasts from modifying DNA, and Clankers build elaborate machinery that would make any steampunk fan swoon. The central characters are Aleksandar, exiled and arguably-illegitimate prince of Austria-Hungary, and Deryn, a commoner who disguises herself as a boy to serve in the British air force. The history feelings, the ship feelings, oh the feelings. I have so many of them. I already have a fic in the works for this series!
I purchased the newest Pokemon game, Black 2, and I am the most excited about it! I haven't yet had the chance to work on it very much, but I already love it dearly. It makes me want to write future-fic for my B/W headcanons... of which I have many. Feels. Also, I am a ten-year-old boy, I recognize and accept this.
Being a ten-year-old boy, I'm also pumped about Green Day releasing a new album, and another very soon! Uno is a magnificent work, a mix of classic GD as well as modern alt-rock tilt. "Fell For You" is my favorite, though "Stay the Night" may just give it a run for its money!
Lately I've been re-watching episodes of Star Trek, TNG to be specific, and my feels are everywhere. I also just watched the newest movie for perhaps the eleven-millionth time. My ships! I love them, though my family does not share them, sadly. Why does no one see Picard/Pulaski? I loves them.
A friend also got me back into an old fandom that is dear to my heart, Fullmetal Alchemist. I've read the manga and seen the original anime, though I have yet to see Brotherhood. Now I want to watch it! Maybe I'll do fic for this one... maybe maybe.
Aforementioned friend has also gotten me to start watching Ouran High Host Club, which I thought would be dumb and fluffy, but... after only two episodes, my heart, it is exploding. With the feels. Also, Vic Mignogna is a brilliant man, and that is all I have to say.
Over the summer I was introduced to Avatar: The Last Airbender, and now I understand what all the hype is about! Just... Zuko. He is my favorite by a lot, a large degree of favorite. He is fantastic! I had my ships all set within ten minutes of watching my first episode, which was, incidentally, The Ember Island Players. Beautiful!
I'm still in all other fandoms I've ever been in, but those are my biggies at the moment. I will happily discuss any and all! Though do be prepared for gushing of feels. This is Marie, after all.
