L'Arc~en~Ciel 30 Day Challenge - Day 23
Good morning~!
We've reached L'Arc's 10th album! Also, today's the day that the new WILD 7 trailer will debut in theaters... featuring the new tune from our favorite rockers! <3 I really hope it will also go online, so we can all see it and enjoy the awesomeness. ^^
In the meantime, I'm nursing a bit of an obsession with tetsu(ya)'s "Can't stop believing"... it's a really amazing song, and the PV is indescribably... indescribable. It's one of my favorites. <3

Yes yes Smile!! Hmm, L'Arc always makes me smile... ehh? Answer the question? Right. My favorite is Feeling Fine!

This song never fails to cheer me up. :) The tune is so happy and bouncy, but the melody is deceptive...
The lyrics tell quite a different story! Interpretations vary, but here's the real deal-

(Though we were connected, I had a feeling from the beginning)
It's all in the past, you taught me the meaning of goodbye

As if nothing had happened, the world kept turning, leaving me behind
Endless freedom... So much time I can't use up

At some point it was interrupted by sleep and disappeared, while I was still smiling
Wow... translations vary wildly! o.o;
This translation (a bit different than the ones I had seen previously) makes the meaning quite clear, I think. 'Feeling Fine' is about a breakup! So the narrator here and their loved one split up, but not without some feelings for each other remaining. It wasn't an ugly split ("Instead of saying goodbye, she said, 'Loving you made me happy every day.'") but, the narrator at least, is still feeling hurt. He still loves her, and is haunted by memories of her at night ("On sleepless nights, your ghost...") While the narrator is lost and caught up in his painful and conflicting emotions, he clearly thinks that she has moved on. ("Right now you're probably in a dream, not even thinking of me.") Throughout the song, the recurring theme is his still loving her, and though he is sure she does not feel the same, he's searching for confirmation. He wants to know if she still feels the same way too. (hence, "Are you feeling fine?" wanting to know how she's taking the whole thing. Whereas he's left a wreck...) The very end could possibly be taken two ways- either the narrator finally gets over it ("I said, 'Loving you made me happy every day", echoing what his loved one had said before) or they reconcile. But it's more likely the former than the latter, I think.
Such a sad, sad, sweet song. ; ^ ;
But I love it! And just listening to it, it cheers me up... ^^ I have to try and not think of the lyrics! (it's more like, aww~ Hyde wants to know if I'm feeling fine~)
This just reminded me... I've been on a serious Tetsuya solo project kick, especially the Suite November album... the lyrics to most of those songs are really sad! They might not seem it at first, but if you read a couple of times... you start to notice stuff. I remember reading that Tetsuya had a bit of an unhappy love life for quite some time, and that might be what's being reflected in his music. (there are a couple of songs that seem to be saying "I know that you say you love me, but I can't love you. If I loved you, you would only be unhappy." etc. In the case of "Can't stop believing" it's a bit nicer than that, and love isn't the main theme anyways. It's like, "I can't love you, but I still want you to be happy, and I'll try to make you happy." Sort of?) Beyond that... let's not even talk about Tightrope... (that is legitimately sad. ;w; Shouldn't mess with Tetchan like that~!)
And then, you get to Wonderful World. ^^ And it's like... HOLY CRAP. FFFFFFF--- D'AAAAAWWWWWWW <3
And then I die of cuteness overload. <3
