Klavier's remained in bed most of the day, trying to calm down and forget the feeling of an axe hitting his back before being set on fire. Even now when he finally decides to show his face downstair, he can still feel his hands shake, but he can't remain in bed all day. He needed food, for example. Or at least a drink. He didn't have any appetite.

When he hears Marie's voice and then the sobs, he stops for a moment to take a deep breath, clenching his hands into fists for a moment and then letting them relax again, still shaking.
