crunchin' numbers

Lets see...if these numbers work out, when skating around 40mph with 100mm wheels that translates to around 3400rpm. When Eddy was skating almost 50 mph, that was getting close to 4250rpm. Hmmm...not too shabby...no wonder you could hear those skates from a distance away. ^_^

Ah... so the diameter is 100mm, 'cause that gives me 3400rpm; as in v/(pi*d). But I get 4270rpm for the latter, but if you take significant figures into acount we'd both end up with the same answer of 4300rpm (or 5 * 3400rpm / 4 ).

...but 100mm (10cm ~ 4") diameter wheels? Aren't those kind of large?

Rec skates typically have I guess 76 to 80mm wheels...speed skates are 90, 100 or 110 mm diameter these days and of varying degrees of hardness. I had softer wheels on this past weekend which made for better traction but slower speeds.

So amazingly enough, yeah, 100 mm...'somethin' else, eh? My second time skating at 38mph was probably fast enough for my current skill and strength level, but much better feel than my first time where my technique wasn't as good. The roads were, for the *most* part, pebble free but the surface roughness was not *always* all that nice.

Rec Skates, as in inline/rollerblades?

Are three skates design for rough terrain, 4 like grassy, etc?
