Unusual Finds in Singapore: Alien Flower?!

Jun 11, 2012 23:24

This is actually a Passion Flower (from which certain species will produce passionfruit). I spotted it in 'my backyard' - the Southern Ridges. (To be fair, my friend, AT, was the one who spotted it while she was talking on her phone and oblivious me very nearly trod on it before she stopped me.) Not knowing what flower it was at first, I was surprised at such a pretty and unusual find.
When I showed the photo to the boy who interupted me, his exclaimation was, "Aliens!". Later my uncle identified the mystery flower for me. Having walked this path dozens of times before, I have never seen anything like it. But there it was, sitting pretty on the pavement, waiting for a photo to be taken. Besides cropping, the photo is unedited; so the colours are as vibrant as shown (or as my camera could capture and your screen can display).
The naturalist in me is heartened that there are still things in Singapore my heart can be gladened by, as much as I have lamented how I miss Perth.
Speaking of naturalists, I apologise that the next post in my series on sacred pathways has been delayed, not that I think anyone is keeping track but me!
