my rebellion...

So today I got my ears pierced. The original plan was to go to Claire's after Marissa and Christina got body piercings at sketchy Dr. B's. Unfortunately, Dr. B thought that since he had a 1:30 appointment, 1:30 would be an excellent time to take a lunch break. So they didn't get started until 2:00, which left the two of them plenty of time to freak out. Because seriously, who calls himself Dr. B and does body piercings?

He had left the door of his office open, so Kate, our piercing expert because she got her nose done, inspected it to see if it looked safe and sanitary, which she decided it was. Dr. B showed up right at 2:00, which is when we were planning to leave so we could get me pierced and make it back in time for our afternoon practices.

So he pierced Marissa's nose and Christina's belly button and then we realized that there wasn't time for me to go to Claire's, so we asked sketchy Dr. B to do it. Now at Claire's, you can do what most normal people do and get your ears pierced with a piercing gun. No such luck here. Dr. B only does needles, so I had to get it done that way. It stung a little when he pushed the needle through, but after that it felt totally fine.

Oh also, the only earrings he had were these Manny Ramirez-esque diamond studs. So I look like 50 Cent now.

I was all excited afterwards, but a little freaked out about what mom would say. After weighing my options carefully, I had decided not to call her in advance so that I wouldn't be disobeying a direct order, but to call her afterwards so I wouldn't take her by surprise when I came home. Also, I figured she'd be less stressed before she started packing for the Vineyard and therefore in a better mood.

Anyway, I called home and I was like "I just wanted to call and let you know that I got my ears pierced today" and she said, in a very grim voice, "well, you're 18, so I guess if you want to walk around with holes in your head that's your problem." Woohoo! I'm not even in trouble! This whole being 18 thing is pretty sick. And I'm also very encouraged for the future of my relations with her. I was sure that her whole spiel about loosening up when I turned 18/went to college would turn out to be B.S., but right now it seems like she really is going to let me be.
