Stressed Out!

Oct 17, 2005 23:07

So, some of my friends are completely stressed out and questioning life and their choices of activities right now. I am in the same boat, but I have some suggestions and comments that I hope help.
1. We all stretch ourselves thin and we begin to tear and freak out and act surprised. We did this to ourselves, which means WE CAN FIX it!
2. Venting about all the shit you have to do somehow makes you feel better. So find a close friend and bitch!
3. Make lists of things that MUST get done, things you WANT done, and stuff you don't give a shit about (and be brutally realistic about it). Do the stuff that MUST be done first, then move on to the WANT to be done list, and lose all the other shit. Having lists really helps me screw my head back on straight. Find out what helps you.
4. Learn to say NO! --I have a real issue with this one. If it is possible that I could do it, then I say I will do it, eventhough I am looking at my schedule while I say yes and trying to figure a time to do it and am having trouble. I should say No in these cases.
4a. There are always exceptions to this. Sometimes you don't really have time to do something, but it's something you love, so you have to say yes. Or it is a request from a good friend that you feel you should help.
5. Take time for yourself each day. Even if it's just 30 seconds. Sit in your room, play your favorite song, and DON'T think about all the shit you have to do. Once the song is over, go back to worrying about everything.
6. Just remember, worrying doesn't do anything. Getting you butt in gear, prioritizing things, and then doing them it what gets stuff done. The stress will subside.
7. These are great years of your life. Everyday is a precious moment. I'm not going to say live every moment as it is, not thinking of the future. That's what we know we should do, but in the reality that we live it...it's just not really possible to totally live in the moment.

Okay, well I've just broken suggestion number 3...as updating my LJ was not on my list of MUST do's. But this falls under the category of 4a...so it's okay.

Life is a commodity to be charished. It is difficult at times, but overall it's the most amazing event ever!

With Love,
Casey
