Little Women/Batman Fic: Dark Scribe Begins, Ch 3 (Jo/Laurie)

I'm trying to work on this series a little more quickly-- thus the reason that chapter 3 is up so soon after chapter 2. It's a little shorter than the previous chapter but by god, we finally introduce more of the starring cast... including not one but two gentlemen who influence the story line for many arcs to come. If you're following this series ( Read more... )

Ah, thank you for coming back and answering! (And now I have to email you as well...)

Fred is... um... off doing his own thing. Whatever that thing might be. He's an obliging sort and is fine with disappearing when the plot needs him to. Dear old Freddie. ;)

I had a terribly entertaining time writing Jo seeing Laurie for the first time... and seeing him apparently morph into the Lazy Laurence of Little Women... times 100, with added womanizing! I'm claiming that it's payback for all the fetishizing of female beauty that goes on in Victorian Literature, which I've been dipping into to get a sense of the time period. Enough with the rose petal lips and the golden curls-- describing big, burly men with that level of detail is much more interesting. XD

Jo is essentially saying she'd rather be used (or have men attempt to use her) for her connections or her information than fixate creepily on her, which means Bat!Laurie will get a lot farther with her by treating their relationship as strictly business... at least at first. I'm not quite sure how they'll get along but I do imagine their relationship will be fairly rocky!

And Dr. Crane/Scarecrow makes for a fantastic badguy, though I thought he was far underused in the actual films. Might as well give him some time to shine, eh?
