i am so glad you went with this story!!! the characters from both fandoms match up so brilliantly. jo would be such a hardass in gotham/new york and of course bale playing batman in the movies totally makes this work in my head. i can see them there so clear. i always hated that rachel chick, but as jo i love her - she'd know how to get the stories and look after herself.
really really really looking forward to see the next chapter.
Coming from the most prolific writer in the fandom, such praise is enough to make me blush. ;) I've been thinking about this for a looong time, though I put off writing the crossover since I was still mulling Batman!Laurie in my mind. To me, he's much more playful than the Bruce Wayne of the film (or even the comic books) would ever be, since some part of him-- no matter how hardened by ninja training and the death of his parents and what have you-- is still charming, irrepressible Laurie. But if you plopped him in a darker world, gave him a reason to cast his laziness aside and strive to fight his inner demons and made Jo an irresistible partner in crime
( ... )
OMG!!!when you told me that you thought Bruce Wayne was an older Laurie,I didn't expect this fic!it's just great!I'm looking forward to see the first Jo/Laurie meeting...and the first Jo/Batman encounter,as well! And I think that Winona Ryder would have been a perfect Rachel, instead of Mrs Cruise...for any Lw's fan,it would have been heaven,I think! Please, don't stop writing this fanfic...please!
Oh, Laurie so could have turned out be Bruce if he had indescribable tragedy in his past, I imagine-- they both have this propensity for epic brooding! Mind you, Laurie also has a keen sense of humor and the ability to enjoy life in a way that seems to have passed Bruce by... but his vastly superior love interest probably has something to do with it. ;) I am going to have so much FUN introducing Jo to Theodore Laurence, fake millionaire playboy extraordinarie, that it's going to be ridiculous. I can't wait until chapter 2 and 3 rolls round.
Thank you so much for reading, dear heart! I was afraid I'd be all alone in liking this epic ridiculousness but I'm glad I have people like you to enjoy it with me. I'll let you know when chapter 2 rolls around, hopefully by the summer... I really can't afford to lose all two people who are following this over in LJ. XD
While I'm not a member of this fandom, I must say that your writing style still sparkles like a particularly witty glass of champagne. Or perhaps like a teenaged vampire. ;)
And Laurie as the Batman. Strangely, I see this as a perfectly organic growth (hopefully benign) of the plays he used to put on with the March girls. That said, I can't wait to see both these meetings...Jo/Laurie and Jo/Batman.
Thank you for reading! I swear, dear, I'll try not to torment you with more plot-lines for this fic than I absolutely must. I already know I'm asking a mite too much of you already... ;)
I hope I catch you online next week! And also, do you still want to send me a new snippet of Riptide? I'll send you the comments on it as soon as I can, if you've got anything new. And when we get on AIM next, I'm happy to RP or talk you through a scene, if you need the help. <3
This makes me as giddy as... well as giddy as... damn it! I hate trying to be original in simile. It never seems to work. Giddy as when you come out of a building and find it to be pouring down rain and you have your umbrella with you out of sheer happenstance. You feel as if you have a special place in the universe. This makes me feel as if all the world is right. Good gracious, I think I have now read all the Little Women fic. I can now say, as you probably know because of the fangirlish comments, that I am completely enamored with your writing.
Hey, how the heck did I never get around to replying to this previously? ;) In any case, original might be the best-- or at least politest-- term for my attempting to mesh the Nolanverse fics with Little Women, of all things! Only in the mind of a lunatic, no? ;)
But hey, if nothing else, Jo's a big step up from poor Rachel Dawes, who could have been bad-ass if they had ever given her something to do. (Although her taking down Scarecrow in the first movie was pretty cool.) And I think Laurie will be a very fun Batman, since he's simply more playful and tender than Bruce could be on his best day, but he's already proven (via his years-long temper tantrum in Europe) that he can do rage and cruelty pretty damn well. Plus, he's played by freaking Christian Bale. Of course he could kick ass if he put his mind to it. XD
Ah, when will you be on aim again, dear? I've finished cleaning up the first draft of our Newsies/LW Xover and would love to talk to you about it...
For the the lack of a reply, it may have had something to do with the fact that my comment made little to know sense. Yikes!
Oh, I think Laurie would be a wonderful Batman. You know he would like being a super hero more than is healthy. I am just sure of it. But I'm sure he could do a whole righteous anger kick. And Jo would be the best super heroine ever. Because she wouldn't succumb to the damsel business. I just can't see that happening.
Hopefully tonight or tomorrow. I can't wait to see it properly cleaned up. Damn, I have an unnatural affection for that thing.
Ah, fortuitous timing! I actually just sent the Newsies/Little Women first rough draft over to you. The thing was a pain in the ass to clean but it's almost 6,000 words long and it's surprisingly good as is! Thankfully, I think we mostly just need to clean up the exposition and smooth out the dialog and then unleash the Jo/Jack goodness on all the rest of the world. ;)
Laurie would be a terrifically awesome action hero, although he'd be considerably more humorous than ol' Bruce Wayne managed to ever be in the Nolanverse. In that way, he's almost more like the version of the Batman that ran around in the '50s and '60s, although he will NOT hesitate to kick ass when he has to. And Jo would be an awesome danger girl, especially since you know she wouldn't ever let herself get taken hostage. (That's what Amy's hanging around for, after all!) They would be such a bad-ass action couple together. Gah, I can't wait to write that!
First off, I almost died laughing looking at your icon. And I thought the original photo was fun. ;)
And thank you for reading and enjoying the Most Insane Crossover Ever! I love Jo myself and rather think of her as an updated version of poor Rachel, who should have been kick-ass in the Nolanverse but got absolutely nothing to do before being blow up sky-high for the sake of the plot line. So getting to write Jo as being an active part of the plot-- especially given the fact that an 19th century Batman would need her help far more than a 21st century one equipped with computer databases!-- should hopefully prove to be a hell of a lot of fun.
BTW, I updated Dark Scribe Begins with chapter 2 right now, if you'd like to check it out!
