I’ve been eyeing all sorts of fanfic memes as of late, though I’ve been shamefully bereft of participating in any. Still, better late than never and this one is ganked from the marvelous Threewalls, as are 99.9% of my ideas nowadays. ;)

Thar be lots of words written about fic heading yer way. )

After all was over and done with, the first thing she did was turn to him and begin to speak, words flowing out of her as naturally as ink from the upturned bottle.
“I didn’t,” she began, and her voice was quiet but intent, “expect for sex to be anything like that.”
He opened his eyes just then, though it took him a moment to adjust to the dim light, and to the gold and rose figure splayed out right next to him. Like she had been from the beginning of it all, from the first moment she had made her way to his rooms and told him that he had almost no choice but to take her in, Penelo seemed to have a way of surprising him in all that she didn’t. He didn’t exactly have much expertise at deflowering virgins (or at least, he thought she was-- had been-- a virgin), but if asked beforehand, this wouldn’t have been what he’d expect her to say.
But Reks knew a challenge when he saw one and though a few-- some-- many might call him foolhardy, he actually enjoyed meeting them. And that was why he turned to his side and brushed one golden curl off of her face and said, “Oh yeah?”
She blushed just then, a deep, pinkish flush that spread across her cheeks and ran all the way down her chest until it hit the top of her small, still girlish
(and something in Reks crumpled a bit to see it)
breasts. “Yeah,” she said, and she was suddenly now shyer than she had been when first she had propositioned him. “I was sort of expecting, um…”
“Fireworks?” Reks brightly asked and she giggled in response, shifting her small body just a bit closer to his. “Explosions and misty minstrel tracks and waves crashing in the background while we roll around in some sand?”
“Well,” she said, and her smile looked warm and natural in the light the candle he had lit earlier stubbornly persisted in giving. “Well, I wasn’t stupid enough to expect that. Not to mention--” And here her grin turned sly in a way he hadn’t quite expected-- “I already had enough uncomfortable things poking into me tonight. Do we really need to add sand to that list too?”
He turned fully to her just then, his eyes meeting her bright brown ones in the sparse light. Despite her words, they were solemner than he wanted to see them, with the corners of them pinched and crinkled in the darkness. For a minute, all Reks wanted to do was chase the sadness in them away, open his arms to her, tell her that he could do what she wanted…
Instead, he reached out for her again, snagging one hand into one curl of her long hair. He could barely even remember ever seeing her hair out of her kiddish braids but it was loose now, longer that he would have expected, wavy in ways he hadn’t anticipated and soft as liquid gold in his unworthy hands. “So what did you expect?”
She was silent for a moment, lips parting as though to rehearse her words. Then, with another shy smile, she turned her eyes away from his. “Pain, I guess. Or maybe-- I don’t know. For it to hurt more. For me to scream a bit. That’s kind of what it’s always like in the books I’ve read, you know, that my mom used to collect. I… um, I guess I thought that you might be so big that you’d maybe, umm, tear at me a bit…”
Despite himself, Reks peeked down at what lay beneath the worn blanket covering both of their lower halves. “Ummm… should I should be flattered here? Or worried I didn‘t live up to your expectations?”
When she threw her head back to laugh, he could see the curve of her neck, the lines of her throat all dappled pink and brown. "Sorry! Sorry, I didn't mean to make you think I thought what you had was, uh..." She trailed off into another nervous laugh and Reks had to hide his face in the pillow to keep from laughing back.
She sobered up afterwards, though a sad, small smile creased her face in another moment. "You were... you were really sweet, Reks. I mean it. I'm really glad that we... we did end up doing this."
"So," Reks said, and her hair slipped through his hands like a glittering chain once more. "So what was it that happened, that you didn't expect?"

I doubt I'll ever pick this story up again since I have no idea what the ultimate point of it would be. But... ::shrug:: Who knows what'll happen from here till then?
