Olivia Mae was born on January 5, 2010 at 5:38 a.m. She weighed 6 lbs 9.5 ozs and she's perfect.
Labor was really fast. I woke up at 12:30 a.m. with a strong contraction. I started timing and realized they were only four minutes apart. We left for the hospital and on the way there, my contractions were coming two minutes apart and were very, very strong but quick.
We got to the hospital at almost 2 a.m. and I was already 4 cm dilated. At this point, I was begging for an epidural, but the nurse told me I had to wait for my doctor to arrive before they administered it. An hour later, after begging for most of the hour, my doctor strolled in, and couldn't understand why I hadn't had the epidural. He checked me and I was now at 6 cm. Finally, I got the epidural and felt immediate relief. With Ava, my legs were completely numb and I felt nothing. This time I could still feel, but the edge wass taken off. One hour later, I started asking for more pain relief as it had really picked up again. They checked me and I was at 9.5 cm. The doctor discouraged me from getting more, but I basically demanded it at this point. At 4:30 a.m., I started pushing, but the baby had not rotated yet so they stopped me for about 15 to 20 minutes. We started again at around 5 a.m. and she was born at 5:38 a.m. The cord was wrapped around her neck once, and she had a little bit of nostril flaring so they called down pediatrics while assuring me she was fine. They spent a while clearing her nostrils out with a tube and she was fine.
Thankfully, I didn't need an episiotomy and I didn't tear. The doctor gave me one stitch and we were done.
We were moved up to a room and spent two nights in the hospital. Overall, she's a really good baby and goes 3 to 4 hours between feedings. She hardly cries... big difference from her sister. Unfortunately, she does have a formula allergy like her sister and we switched her to Alimentum on her second day home. She's doing much better, but still has a very red bottom.
Ava adores her and tells everyone her sister is "so beautiful in the whole wide world."
Without any further adieu, here she is...
