Brain in Atlanta

The school year starts on monday, but already I'm twitching for D*C. There's still a lot of work to do, but I'm so freaking ready I can taste it! Both Dan and I have started out "con-diets" For me that means getting most of my colors for easily eliminated liquids and eating only one or two simple meals a day. For him it means no ribs for the next two weeks. Why? Because of Steak and Ale. This started as a tradition the first Dragon*con we went to. While wandering around Atlanta, we spotted a resturant called Steak'n'Ale. Figuring it was sort of a Fridays kind of place, we went in to eat. And had probably the best food we'd ever had at the Con. Now, it's a tradition. I order their sirloin, he orders the ribs, and we both groan orgasmically over how good it is. THe price is a little up there, but totally worth it. I've added another limit to my con diet. No oriental food. There is a little japanese fast food chain called Mt. Fuji...which sells a yakitori with crack in the sauce. I've been trying to learn how to make it ever since, with margional success. I'm already craving it right now. Yum.

But this year it's more than the food, I'm looking forward to the friday night contest. It's a contest based on construction and skill, not presentation. I'll be showing off Kiki's armor for that one. So if you're at D*C and want something to do friday night, come cheer on the fire aspect. I stopped doing competitions after my second Dawn. It took up a lot of con time, and while hanging out backstage was fun, my drive to make a bigger and better Dawn costume was lacking. This year I'm breaking that policy because the armor is so bad ass, it HAS to be shown off more than just walking around at the con.

Not only that, but I'm hoping the Asian culture track has improved from the last time. And if not, hellooooooo costuming track. With new guest speakers, I'll get some cool new info and tips. I can't wait to see Voltaire in concert again. His cds are all right, but there's something about seeing him in concert that is just so much better. Maybe it's because of his stage presence. The film festival should be good too, it always is. And then of course there's the chances to buy oodles of cool geeky things. SQUEE! I'm hoping to track down some Anime sets, a Scarletta corset, and maybe some art to go on the walls of this place. I'll also need to get thank you gifts for Josh for helping me make the armor, Brent for helping with the sword, and CJ for taking care of the gliders while we're gone. We'd take them with us, but they're utterly illegal in Georgia so, sorry sweeties, you have to stay home.

My mind has only barely registered that I'm expected to be places next week. I'm hoping that will change after D*C, I need to keep my head in the game if I want to keep my GA and do an awesome job with my masters.

Ah well, time to put on Ranma and get to work.

school, d*c, costumes
