[Card Captor Sakura] Friendship

"Li-kun, why do you always look so sad?" she asked him, a confused and concerned look on her face. She had woken up with amnesia just a few months before. In a room full of unfamiliar faces--at the time, at least--he had been there. Since then, the boy was the only face she didn't remember. He was, after all, Meiling's cousin, so surely she'd know him! That didn't seem to be the case, however, since she'd recovered so much missing time, but never did she remember him.
"It's nothing," Li Syaoran replied nervously. He wanted so bad to let her remember him for him, not be told of the memories they had, even though he knew she remembered times with him with an empty space in place of him.
Tomoyo hadn't pulled out the videotapes yet. She hoped more than anyone--Syaoran included, strangely--that Sakura would recover and remember him. The girl wanted more than anyone for her best friend to be happy with Syaoran; she'd probably hold a viewing of their "CUTEST MOMENTS" sooner or later if things didn't improve.
"You can tell me what's wrong, Li-kun! We're friends now, right?" She looked so innocent saying it. Completely oblivious to the fact that just by using that name, she hurt him. It wasn't her fault, after all, but still it hurt.
Don't call me that, he thought sadly. That name was a step backwards. After everything they'd been through, to go back was the worst.
Sakura frowned, looking away, ashamed, and Syaoran realized that he'd spoken without realizing it. Flailing, trying to salvage the situation, he hurriedly added, "No, I mean... We're friends, right? You may call me by my name!"
Instantly, the girl's mood changed, returning to her usual, cheery self. "Okay, Syaoran-kun! But you have to call me Sakura." She smiled and, while it still hurt, Syaoran felt much better. She may not have remembered him, but that didn't mean they couldn't forge new memories.
