What if Funimation Dubbed Shaman King-Part 1
You all saw my first one-If Funimation Dubbed Bleach! ^_^ Now, IF FUNIMATION DUBBED-my favorite show of all time-(other than One Piece-But funimation is ALREADY dubbing that) SHAMAN KING!!! :D
Seriously, more people need to get into this show/manga series....IT EPIC!!!!!!!!! :D
Originally...this series was dubbed by....(shivers) 4kids. Hands down-probably the best dub 4kids has ever done....probably because 2/3rd of the cast either HAD acting ability or were decent/pretty ok/average in their acting ability....as compared to other series where 3/4ths or more (or all of it) sucks!!!! (granted HALF of the 2/3rds of the acting ability had annoying voices...but at least for the most part they could act) The rest....sucked-had annoying voices AND sucked, or sucked + had annoying voices + LAMEST ACCENTS EVER...AND didn't fit the personality with their character at all!
But that's a granted with 4kids. Another amazing thing about this series with being a 4kids dub-reason why its easily the best (for a 4kids dub that is) 4kids for the most part-STUCK TO THE PLOT!!!! O_O They were barely many changes to the plotline of the original story-and no episodes cut out SURPRISINGLY! Since 4kids is known for that crap!
Also, at least half of the characters kept their ORIGINAL NAMES!!!! O_O Yoh Asakura, Anna, Amidamaru, Opacho, Jun Tao, Yoh's family (Mikihisa [father], Keiko [mother], Yohmei[grandfather] and Kino[grandmother]) all kept their names....also the character Lyserg! Fellow X-law Marco! The insane necro-shaman Faust VIII, and his wife Eliza! The Spirit Tokegeru! Amidamaru's best friend-Mosuke! Chocolove's Spirit, Mic! The girls of the Lilly 5 kept their names! I can keep going!
Other characters just had minor changes like spelling, Ren Tao became Len Tao (I swear I'll hit something the next time somebody call him LENNY though! XP) Ryu became Ryo (and a horrible hispanic accent to boot), Bai-long became Pai-long. Jeanne became Jean. Pirika became Pilika... Yada Yada...
Name changes did happen (as they always do in a 4kids show)....Tamao became Tamera. Manta became Morty (XP!!!!) Chocolove became Joco (dumb name!) Horohoro's spirit, Kokoro became Corey. Hao's servant Luchist became Luca (because can't have any Satan references! OH NOES! =_=) Jun and Ren's father-Yaun Tao became En Tao-and changed to their UNCLE!!! (because changing their gaurdian to their uncle TOTALLY hides child abuse...4kids you guys are retarded!) Even though the members of the Patch Tribe kept their names (Silva and Co.) and they were still called the Patch Tribe...for no apparent reason their village name was changed from Patch Village to Dobey Village?! The Heck?!
Lyserg's spirit Morphine got a name change to Chole (no drug references allowed D8 yet Lyserg keeps his drug reference name?!)
Horohoro did SOMEWHAT keep his name. (in the original his name is Horokeu Usui-but goes by the nickname of Horohoro) but in the 4kids dub-Horohoro is his real name, but goes by the Nickname-Trey Racer!!!! No seriously!!!! DX THAT'S WHAT THEY CALL HIM!!!!
Hao Asakura became ZEKE Asakura! (pulls out chainsaw and axe) CURSE YOU 4KIDS!!!! HOW DARE YOU GIVE HIM SUCH A RETARDED NAME!!! I apologize to anyone named Zeke. But seriously you give the MAIN VILLAIN THE NAME ZEKE?!?!?! Sure he gets to keep his Japanese Family name...but he's not allowed to have a Japanese First Name?! HOW COME THE PROTAGONIST YOH GETS TO KEEP HIS?!?!?! 4kids....they give me headaches!
Another thing is the main character is FROM JAPAN!!!! LIKE HE'S ALWAYS BEEN, they didn't westernize and americanize this show as much they did their others. Which THANK HEAVENS!!! SOME Aisen foods have STAYED that way and wasn't westernized as well....like Riceballs became donuts....WHAT THE CRAP!!! Thankfully not in this show! :D But unfortunately, I DO REMEMBER at one point they changed Takoyaki into creampuffs or something....what the freaking crap?!?! DX
Another thing, for a 4kids dub, they were actually more relaxed on the censorship then they normally are. I DID hear the X-laws utter the word "Perish" in one episode OMG!!!!! D8.....I DID see an outline of blood actually come out of Ren when he got hit in one episode! I DID see Hao bleeding from his head-they actually KEPT THAT! And they kept him licking the blood off his fingers! 8D WOW!!!! AWESOME!!!! And death IS hinted at...but they don't outright say the "D" word! (but as usual destroy is used alot...again, SHOCK IT'S 4KIDS!!! DX) But I DO REMEMBER Death or die or something had been said like once or twice...I don't remember too much. But yeah-considered it's a show about ghosts and shamans....4kids would be retards trying to hide DEATH when the characters are surrounded by GHOSTS!!!
That being said, while compared to other 4kids dubs-this is their best..............this dub STILL SUCKED!!!
So, obviously-more epic changes would happen IF Funimation dubbed it from the start! Like for starters, NO AMERICANIZATION IN GENERAL! NO NAME CHANGES!!! 100 % BETTER VOICE CAST!!! NO CENSORSHIP AT ALL!!! AND THE PLOT POINTS THEY DID TAKE AWAY WOULD OF NEVER BEEN REMOVED!!!! So in my next part, I'm gonna explain my voice cast choice if Funimation dubbed the series ^_^
