We're in!
House move happened yesterday, despite a last-minute attempt by the movers to delay things from 8am to midday. Given they took 5 HOURS to move flat contents 1 mile, I'm very glad I didn't stand for that sort of nonsense and insisted on a first appointment. Otherwise we'd have been waiting a long time!
So yes, up at 6.30am yesterday for two mildly unenthusiastic removers to turn up at 7. Despite being a bit slow (totally unlike the Bishop's Move lot), they were steady and so far there seems to be no damage. This time we had dry and occasional sun, so no fretting about carpet damage. Apart from odd "must top up blood sugar or die" breaks, we didn't stop until 6pm. Bloody knackering, but it does mean we have a functioning living room, bedroom and mostly-functioning kitchen. The other rooms are a bit full of boxes, but hey, that's half the fun. Isn't it?
In fridge news: the useless sods I ordered it from didn't get back to me, nor deliver the fridge on Monday. A little phone call yesterday had them trying to deliver it to me "some time next week". I think not. Rather uncharacteristically, I verbally fluttered my eyelashes and explained how awful it was I was moving today and how we just couldn't cope without a fridge so could we have it Friday please? Follow-up phone call yesterday afternoon has allegedly confirmed it for Friday. I may believe this one as I have name and number to call on Friday morning to get the exact delivery time.
In other shocking news, both BT and Sky have shown remarkable customer service and alacrity in tending to our needs. BT's speed at restoring our telephone line to the house has left me gasping like a fish. And it cost nothing! Sky have promised me tv goodness from some time Friday, so I could be extremely happy come Friday evening. Amazing what service you get in Metroland.
It's strange having stairs again, which aren't used by others. And the neighbours keep saying Hello and offering cups of tea. Am I in a parallel universe?
