♥ It was the same things years ago before I left for war: the shots of whiskey, the speech, "come back in one piece." It was the way he did the last goodbye.
Finally comes the hug in which he tries to hold on to my soul.
♥ We started to fly over the part of America worth saving. A woman General once told me that the wretched are worth saving more than anyone because the reversal of their fortune is the true measure of our greatness.
♥ "I took control of Vespoid and in a bloody coup but heard nothing from our master. Only after years went by did I finally accept the truth. He wanted me as his enemy. You must have great enemies to feed an obsession with war."
♥ My enemy's blood runs through my veins. My enemy's heart beats in my father's chest. My enemy's body is my wife's body. I look across the sea-filled crater left by a black hole and wonder: where does the battlefield end, and where does it begin?
