Title: American Vampire Vol 1.
Author: Scott Snyder and Stephen King.
Artist: Rafael Albuquerque.
Genre: Fiction, graphic novel, historical fiction, horror, fantasy, vampire fiction.
Country: U.S.
Language: English.
Publication Date: October 5, 2010.
Summary: This volume follows two stories: one is set in 1920's LA and follows Pearl, a young woman who is turned into a vampire and sets out on a path of righteous revenge against the European Vampires who tortured and abused her. This story is paired with King's story, a western about Skinner Sweet, the original American Vampire - a stronger, faster creature than any vampire ever seen before, with rattlesnake fangs and powered by the sun.

My rating: 8/10

From the Introduction by Stephen King:

Here's what vampires shouldn't be: pallid detectives who drink Bloody Marys and only work at night; lovelorn southern gentlemen; anorexic teenage girls; boy-toys with big dewy eyes.

What should they be?

Killers, honey. Stone killers who never get enough of that tasty Type-A. Bad boys and girls. Hunters. In other words, Midnight America. Red, white and blue, accent on the red. Those vamps got hijacked by a lot of soft-focus romance.

...In the end, though, it's all about giving back the teeth that the current "sweetie-vamps" craze has, by and large, stolen from the bloodsuckers. It's about making them scary again. Thanks, you guys, for letting me be a part of that. Skinner Sweet really sucks, and man, that's a good thing.

♥ We lie to protect the ones we love, but they rarely believe; more often than not, they see the truth in our faces.

♥ A man with a broken heart thinks distance will cure him, but he's wrong. Time is the only constant.

For the living it never stops. For the dead it doesn't matter. And for the undead? For the undead time is a joke to be laughed at!

♥ My father kept dogs on our farm when I was a little girl. Big, mean mastiffs. Six in all. Anyone came inside our gate and those dogs would run at him. I never saw them scared. Except this one time...

When a gray wolf wandered down to our property from up north. The dogs stayed under our porch all day long, hiding in the shadows. It was a shock to see, because it was like the dogs just knew, by instinct, that no matter how many of them there were, the wolf would always be tougher and meaner.

And the wolf--well, he knew it too.
