Title: The Cat in the Hat.
Author: Dr. Seuss.
Genre: Fiction, children's lit, poetry, humour.
Country: U.S.
Language: English.
Publication Date: March 12, 1957.
Summary: The story centers on a tall anthropomorphic cat, who wears a red and white-striped hat and a red bow tie and shows up at the house of Sally and her brother Conrad one rainy day when their mother is away. Ignoring repeated objections from the children's fish, he wreaks chaos on the house.

My rating: 5/10
My Review: Not having grown up with Dr. Seuss, I don't have much sentimentality or warm fuzzy feelings connected with him which, I feel, would have very much softened my perception of this book. Having come across his most famous book at a fairly old age, I found it really, really disturbing and unpleasant. The cute rhymes did nothing to cover up how incredibly creepy the cat came off. It wasn't a fun, harmless frolic - it was an irritating book about a huge asshole that bursts into someone else's home, destroys it, and all the while comes off as an adult saying incredibly suggestive and inappropriate things to small children.
