Jackalope
Something must have mothered me,
Rare as I am, shy of light as I am.
When evening comes - purple cleft and plow,
Stain of night birds, shadow trees hobbling
The far rise - I come looking for my own kind,
Looking for you, jackalope. They say
You're stitched from two sad animals,
That you're mongrel and luminous,

"I'm not exactly a free trader here, but I am sympathetic to the argument that at some point these big operators ought to be on their own. They're so big and so efficient and so effective at their work. We ought to reserve some of the money that we're saying we're giving to family farmers that are smaller and struggling and actually give it to them. And let the big guys roll the dice on the world market if they want to.
The whole question on this farm bill, as it was with the last one, is shouldn't we put more reasonable limits on the maximum amount of money that someone can get through these programs? And further - this is what the President is talking about - if you're wealthy enough, maybe you shouldn't get any money. If you have an adjusted gross income, the President said, of $200,000 or more, you ought to be out of these farm programs."
"So the president is threatening to veto the bill because it does too much to help the wealthy?"
"Honest to god, he is. I've been describing it as a parallel universe. "- Ken Cook, president of the Environmental Working Group

However, Cook is wrong about one major point -- the big farms are NOT efficient and effective at their work. Federal farm bills are the only reason that they exist at all, let alone continue to grow and take over, because they are nowhere near profitable enough on their own to survive in a really free market. Take the subsidies from the big guys and you wouldn't need to give any to the little guys, because the little guys would have the whole market to themselves.
Sadly Big Ag and Big Gov scratch each others' backs too well for Congress to ever let a thing happen. Us little folk dodge the fingernails.
I wonder how hard it would be to genetically engineer some jackalopes? Probably not very.

Anyway, the brands are one thing, the farms that grow they raw materials are another (even in case they're owned by the same conglomerate). Fritos will find a way to survive, whether they're made with corn from a bunch of little farms or one giant agricorp that covers half of Iowa.

but it is a parallel universe as well.
take that company odwalla, wholesome, organic juices, raw nut bars, flash pastuerized goodness etc. (chloe was a big odwalla buyer! fed her kids the stuff. beleived in it. shoot that girl is soo sooo sooo picky, like neurotic picky and they got her rev wholesome self reeled in!) and with a little suspicious research sure enough, we find it was bought out by coca cola company.
YES!!! busted, at that point it could've been as organic as a bottle of windex, because coca big co. has its own interpretation of ordinance codes and certification standards.
