princejvstin 's questions and the answers to them.
1. Suggest an author or book that you don't think I have read.
Just for fun, I'm going to suggest the historical mystery series I gave my younger son for Christmas, Holmes on the Range and its sequels by Steve Hockensmith. Cowboy detectives with both humor and action. Historical mystery is a genre I haven't seen you review, so I'm guessing it may not be one you normally follow.
2. What are your favorite moments as a roleplayer?
I can think of two right offhand, one from the Old Days and one more recent (though still some years back). The first was an incident in a D&D game where my sawed-off fighter character, Blaze Nightchaser, managed to best a Type Three demon through a combination of luck and sheer chutzpah. I liked that one so much I ended up writing a ballad of it, which later on I sang at the occasional Bardic Circle; it was enjoyed by the late Paul Edwin Zimmer, for one, which may give you some notion of how long ago that was.
More recently, in an online game called "Westlands" run by an e-friend of mine, my street performer/thief character Merlette foiled another demonic foe by hitting her in the face with a cream pie.
3. National Geographic wants to send you somewhere in the world to do an article on birdwatching! Where do you go?
That's a tough choice -- but after the most recent Nature program I saw, I think I might go with the Balkans! The wildlife there is seriously cool, and it wouldn't be too hot and sticky for the most part. And they have griffon vultures! Tropical places have a lot of showy birds, but the humidity...!
4. Someone has a day to see Santa Fe. Where do you take them, and why?
It would depend partly on who the person was and what their interests were, but I would probably concentrate on museums. We have a history museum and an art museum pretty much on the Plaza (and right across the street from each other), with a number of interesting restaurants in easy walking distance. Then a short drive away is another cluster of museums, including the International Folk Art museum and the Wheelwright (Native American art) where my mother volunteers. A fellow birder I might drive out to the Randall Davey Audubon Center. These are all interesting places and relatively easy to get to. The downtown museums and restaurants could be done on foot from our house.
5.Your gaming tastes are strongly literary. If you could write a novel, what would it be about?
I actually do have several chapters of a novel on my laptop right now; it's a fantasy with an ancient-world setting (as opposed to, say, medievaloid) in a world with at least two intelligent species; my protagonist is a member of the non-human, immortal one. Now, if I only had a plotline past the first five chapters... I also would like to be able to write one or more novels starring my artist-detective character, Jean-Claude de Saint-Ange (you know him as Claudio Barimen in TUC), if there weren't so many difficulties about the setting.
