London Calling: Westminster

Jan 10, 2008 09:22

Today, we visited  Westminster.  Westminster, is a district in London where everything really, really important is.  Such as Buckingham Palace, St. James Park, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and Trafalgar Square.   See? The really important stuff is right there along with some really scary birds (swans=evil).

The reason we visted Westminster was to see the Churchill Museum.  Which is a great museum if you are interested in WWII.  It's very comprehensive and in the old bunkerish War Cabinets.  I rather enjoyed it.

After the Churchill Museum Nicole, Carl, Colin, and I where lucky enough to walk over to Buckingham Palace and watch the changing of the guards.  The first part of the changing of the guards is really, really boring.  Mainly the just all sort of stand there as music is blasted and tourists take pictures.  Now, the last part is the fun part where they all head out and march to where ever they are meant to be.  It's just fun to walk all of them march of the wherever banging on the base drum.

The highlight of the visit was Westminster Abbey which this amazing Gothic cathedral that everyone who has been anyone in British History is if not buried has a plaque here.  It's amazing architecture and is basically a historical orgasm.  Which is what Nicole and I had in the poet's connor.  I also just had the strange desire to touch something.  That's a big no-no at Westminster Abbey.  But I did touch a Abbot from the 15th Century so fuck the system!!

This weekend we will be in Oxford and Cambridge.
