Pedestrian - 1, car - 0

Every morning I walk from my neighbourhood across two parking lots and then across a side street which has a traffic light. I make a point of crossing WITH the light, because so many people rush out of the side street and turn right, which means they never look in my direction. I've taken to tapping on hoods (well, OK, hitting) to make these right-turners look at me before they go.
This morning was one of those mornings - I could see my bus down at the stop before mine, and I was nearly to the intersection. The light was in my favour. There was a little car with two people in it inching forward into the cross-walk (yes, there's a marked and signed cross-walk there). The driver was trying to see if she should pull out in front of my bus that was by now pulling to a stop at the bus shelter. She started inching forward, without once having even glanced to her right to see if anyone was walking. I leaned out and whacked her hood loudly, which, of course, startled her, so she put on the brakes and let me by. She happened to have her window open, so I yelled a reminder about pedestrians, right-of-way, and green lights as I went by. My bus driver (whom I know well enough to say Hi to), had seen the whole thing, and he looked like he was worried/relieved that I was ok.

I'm least happy about her passenger, who saw me (and MADE EYE CONTACT with me) before I got to the intersection, visibly decided not to tell the driver that I was there, and then laughed at her when I hit the hood with my hand. He gets stupid-arse bonus points for laughing again when I yelled at her.

aargh, transit, bus
