Blog here and plan here. It was interesting, and very important, and fairly sparsely attended. That's too bad, because anyone who attended got heard loud and clear, as the planners were specifically looking for public input.
You know, this may be crazy but it may also be something to bring back to your fellow public servants. I always hear things like meetings are "sparsely attended" yet elected officials are looking for "public input." Perhaps holding public meetings isn't getting anywhere, and it's time to do something different. Maybe a town email list (where perhaps only some people can post to it, so it's not a discussion list), or perhaps put something large and flashy on the town website.
I just keep hearing that people are looking for input but never get any, and I have to wonder if they keep doing the same thing expecting different results.
And as a corollary, how would you go about changing the SCA awards structure so that you don't have to beg for award recs? Same behaviour, similar problem.
Well, I know that there is an email list for my neighborhood, and one for Parkwood, and I know of a couple other such lists in South Durham. If I were in a city council type spot, I'd try to gather up all the email lists in the city that I could find, and broadcast out to them when I was looking for input. For places where there isn't an email list, I may have to try and get people to start them. Rental companies would probably be low hanging fruit, as they could reach a bunch of people pretty quickly and it would probably save them money in the long run (back in Little Kberg Commune, they would drop flyers on our doors for announcements, when an email would save the cost of printing and distributing said paper). One may also have to reach out to churches or other communities to get better coverage.

The second thing that drives us to beg is lack of knowledge. It's basically impossible to know everyone in the Kingdom, and keep up with what they generally do, how well they do it, and how frequently they accomplish it. Thus, monarchs have to rely on local people to tell them what their friends are doing. Sure, for some awards they can stumble upon a cool happening (like doing well in the Ymir Tourney, or having a good showing at KASF). But, for most of your AoA style/level work and accomplishments, especially in the more remote areas of the Kingdom, they have to rely on recommendations of the people directly impacted by it

On some people, this works well, but for others, they get entirely missed (prob. due to lack of correlation, as you say), because they do so many disparate things.
It's interesting to me that you (and I'm still getting used to you being one of 'them') are actively trying to correlate data, or at least are thinking about it. Before you said this, I would have sworn my last dollar that most crowned and coroneted heads were actively trying to avoid correlating this information (which might still be true), and also that you weren't actively collecting it, either. Sure, you know what Wistric has done in the past 4 years, but do you know what Tangwystl has done in the past 7 or 8? The burn-out is a real problem, and I'm far from the only one affected by it.
I've come at this the wrong way 'round, I think, and nobody but you and me are reading this thread. I think a bit of a longer post is in the making (either that or an IM convo, which might be easier, if nobody else is going to read it).
