The scene opens in a cozy, fairly clean kitchen. The aftermath of a party is much in evidence - serving bowls stacked up to be washed, empty bags of pretzels and bottles of root beer are in various spots around the kitchen.
Mom opens the freezer to look for things to cook for dinner.
Mom: Oh, crud! (Mom speaks to son) Hey Nate, guess what!
Nate: What?
Mom: We forgot the ice cream for the party!
Nate: Oh, man!
Mom: Well, there's still plenty of root beer left. We can have root beer floats tomorrow.
(There would have been root beer floats, if we had remembered the ice cream).
